Fifth and last painting in a series of five - part of a commission. Portraying Dr. Remy 'Thirteen' Hadley (Olivia Wilde) from House. The general idea was to portray the pivotal moments in the character's arc. This one is based on S08E03 - "Charity Case", S08E21 - "Holding On" and S08E22 - "Everybody Dies".
'Thirteen's' arc is concluded with S08E03 and S08E21. These final episodes showcase a character that has come to terms with her condition to the extent that is possible: Wilson asks, "Why can't they just say something that makes me feel better?" To which she in a humoristic tone replies, "Like what, exactly?" In retrospect it's interesting how 'Thirteen' getting re-hired in S05E05 and fired in S08E03 were both an attempt by House to save her - upon the discussion of her staying/leaving in S08E03, they both sarcastically state, "Yes, I think that little of you and that much of me." I guess it goes to show that it isn't necessarily a tragedy that "something always changes," then again, "nothing is ever over."
And so the character who was strong yet weak, secretive, alone yet longing, so like yet unlike House, got a happier end than one might have thought. And who would really have expected that for a character named 'Thirteen'? The finale and her seven second appearance gave us but a single line, but it's significance was so much more than the words it embodied, "He was willing to kill me, and I'll always be grateful."
I'm not sure what you were trying to achieve. I'm never quite sure, but you were actually a friend to me when I needed it.
I don't wanna come back to work for you, but I was wrong to try to push you out of my life.
House: So guilt?
'Thirteen': Yes, you were right. You are always right. I just... I have the skills to help people.
Is it okay for me to walk away from that because I want to just have fun?
House: Obviously not...
House: 'Thirteen'. Wait a minute. You're fired.
'Thirteen': Now what? House, I'm starving.
House: I'm not joking. You're fired. Don't come in tomorrow.
'Thirteen': House!
House: I can work with people who've got nowhere else to go. People who got something to prove.
People who just get off on weird cases. What I can't work with is someone who's here so she doesn't have to feel bad.
'Thirteen': You're trying to save me. (reference to S05E05 - same exact words)
House: Yes. I think that little of you and that much of me.
'Thirteen': Okay. Bye, House.
'Thirteen': The prodigal daughter returns.
House: You taking me up on my offer to off you? Think I've still got some leftover propofol.
'Thirteen': Spoke to Wilson.
House: He's angry because I want him to live longer. Who wouldn't be?
'Thirteen': Friends respect each other's decisions, even if they don't agree with them. It's called loyalty.
House: Loyalty is a tool to get people to do things they don't wanna do.
'Thirteen': But you do want to.
"You may have rationalised it a hundred different ways, but the fact is, you fired me so that I'd be forced to spend the rest of my life doing exactly what I wanted to do. It was probably the most selfless thing anyone has ever done for me. And you don't even like me that much."
